Gary Spencer-Humphrey - Founder / Lead ISW

Gary is our founder, lead independent social worker and expert witness. He is a dual-registered social worker in England and Wales with experience with older adults, mental health, physical disabilities and forensics. Gary holds a degree in law, a degree in social work and a master's in advanced mental health. He is a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). Gary also sits as a Specialist Member on the Mental Health Review Tribunal, has work at Head of Service in local authority social work and holds the Bond Solon expert witness certificates in family and civil law. Gary is based in our Portsmouth office and works in England and Wales.

Sarah McCully - Senior Associate
BA (Hons) MSc PgD RSW MBASW
Sarah joined us in 2019 as an associate and became a senior associate in 2024. Sarah is a dual-trained psychotherapist (non-practicing) and registered social worker with experience with older adults, hospital social work and rehabilitation. She has experience as an Assistant Team Manager, looking after a health and care team of more than 60 practitioners in a busy hospital and reablement service. Sarah oversees quality assurance and leads our care governance board to ensure we meet the highest standards in delivering care excellence. Sarah is based in our Portsmouth office.

Jaimie is an associate independent social worker with extensive experience in older adults, physical disabilities, early intervention, homelessness and hospital social work. She qualified as a social worker in 2008 and specialised as a Best Interest Assessor in 2017. Jaimie has experience in the Court of Protection with those who lack capacity. She worked as a team leader (assistant manager grade) before embarking on her ISW journey in 2018. Jaimie joined us in 2024 and enjoys the flexibility that being an independent gives her when working with various people. Jaimie is based in our Portsmouth office.

He is a qualified social worker with a degree in business administration, a master's in social work and a master's in learning disabilities. Akhil has worked as a social worker and a care home registered manager. He has experience in leadership, management and direct care. He joined us in 2024 and offers a range of specialist support and assists our associates and lead practitioners. He is based in our Portsmouth office.

Tilly is our administrator and the PA to Gary Spencer-Humphrey. She joined us in 2024 from a customer care and retail background and is a business college graduate from Chichester College, where she developed an interest in marketing. Tilly supports the service in receiving initial enquiries, taking new referrals, transcribing, minute taking, responding to emails, and maintaining a smooth, well-run office. She works part-time and is based in our Portsmouth office and supporting with social media creation and looks after our client management and record systems.
